Major Field Test Biology

The Major Field Test (MFT) for Biology is typically taken near the end of BSC4936 Critical Analysis of Biological Research and is a required component of the course. The University of Florida uses the results to assess student learning outcomes.

This test is administered nationally and compares you to your peers across the nation. If you score well, your score should be included on your CV or resume to indicate how you compare to other applicants (for jobs, graduate school, etc.) who have the same degree as you.

The test is two hours and 150 questions. Below is an abbreviated guide on how the MFT is broken down by subject. For a more in-depth guide as well as sample questions, visit the ETS website. ETS (Educational Testing Service) is the creator and administrator of this test.

The test is primarily given online but you can request a written version. You will receive an email from ETS with instructions on how to register to take the test. Your course fee from BSC4936 pay for only one scheduled time. If you miss the scheduled time the university will be charged and you will forfeit the fees that were paid for that appointment. To reschedule a missed appointment, you will need to make arrangements with ETS and pay for the new appointment out of pocket.
