Curricula and Tracks
The Curricula
The Biology major has six sub-specialization tracks offered between the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS).
College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Tracks:
1. Pre-Professional Track
2. Biology Track
3. Biology Secondary Education Track
College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Tracks:
1. Pre-Professional Track
2. Natural Science Track
3. Biotechnology Track
4. Applied Biology Track
Most tracks require the following major coursework and credits (passed with a C or better):
- Integrated Principles of Biology (BSC 2010-2010L, BSC 2011-2011L)
- Genetics (PCB 3063 or AGR 3303) or Molecular Genetics (PCB 4522)
The tracks otherwise vary in the specific introductory courses and and major courses that satisfy the requirements of the Biology degree. These differences provide the options that distinguish one track from another. Students can further individualize their curricula with additional biology courses from the many different departments, colleges, and units in the life sciences at UF.
CLAS students majoring in Biology are designated with the abbreviation “BIO” and CALS students are designated with “BLY”.
